How To Grow Successfully

Dreaming of growing your business and achieving those goals you set for yourself in your business plan?

And getting to that point where clients will come looking for you because you are their go-to problem solver?

I think we all fall into this category. 

But what makes businesses actually successful and stand out here is being smart and going about this process wisely.

And if there’s one thing that can really hold your business back, it’s NOT being clear on your ideal client.

This can have an immense impact on the scalability & the success of your business.

So, why is this so important?

It’s because it’s got such a domino effect on the main drivers necessary for a business to thrive.

Let’s imagine that at the moment, you’re not sure who or what your ideal client is and that you’re taking on work from many different clients that all have different needs and wants. One client asks that you do something in a particular way, and the other prefers a completely different approach … you get my point.

The toll this takes on you and your business is time, effort & resources - having to come up with various different workflows & delivery approaches for each individual client.

Not only does this consume much more of your energy, but it also leaves you with the feeling of unpredictability in terms of what will come next from each client and how you will handle it.

And what this does to your potential for scaling & building a successful business, is cut it at its roots.

Because the opposite to the above situation would look like this: You’ve clearly outlined what kind of clients you want to work with, and what area of the industry you are targeting.

As these clients are all in the same area of the industry and have very similar pain points, you can use the same, or very similar, approach with them when it comes to winning work from them as well as project delivery.

And when you focus on doing things really effectively for one type of client, you become a specialist in that area. Not to mention that having one type of client enables you to really streamline everything in your business.

How much easier is it to prepare the same kind of report/s or approach your project delivery in the same way every time? Then you can adapt and refine over time so that these systems & processes become even better and serve your clients more effectively.

So many get distracted by new 'bright and shiny’ clients in completely different markets & industries with completely different challenges because they think it’s boring to do repetitive projects & tasks over and over.

However, boredom is actually the culprit. It’s the thing that will sabotage you!

Repetition of what you do will ultimately build your skills - so that you can become a specialist, not a generalist.

Remember that no one seeks out generalists.

Clients will look for a professional in the field with a specific set of skills and a proven way of eliminating their problems. They need you to solve that one problem that keeps them awake at night.

This allows you to step into the specialist space, charge what you’re worth and make good profit.

I’ll leave you with this thought: Simple scales, complex fails.
