Using LinkedIn To Build Your Business

Today, we're delving into a subject that could be a game-changer for your business: the untapped potential of LinkedIn. Many of us have overlooked the incredible benefits of having a consistent presence on this platform, and I want to shed some light on the opportunities this platform presents to help you grow your business. 

As an industry, we've been accustomed to traditional business development methods like networking events, industry gatherings, and tender panels. Don't get me wrong; these methods still have their place. But LinkedIn is such a powerhouse and it’s so underutilised.

I want us to reframe the way we think about business development & how we’re spending our time. We're willing to invest hours attending networking events, where we may or may not connect with ideal clients or generate any leads or opportunities at all. Why not invest those same hours into mastering LinkedIn, a platform with the potential to reach hundreds, if not thousands, of your ideal clients right now?

The missed opportunity lies in the fact that very few business owners or businesses take full advantage of LinkedIn. It's time to change that. Instead of dedicating hours to physical events, shift your focus to the digital realm. LinkedIn offers a more leveraged approach to connecting with your perfect future clients.

First, consider the power of targeted searches on LinkedIn. You can identify the job titles, roles, and industries of your ideal clients and conduct precise searches to find them and connect with them.

Now, imagine a process for reaching out to them, not in a spammy or salesy manner, but genuinely to get to know them and understand how you can assist their business. Remember, you're not trying to secure immediate work; you're merely selling the next step—a meeting, a conversation, a coffee.

Here's a key principle: LinkedIn is not about getting work directly. It's about building relationships and trust. Over time, these relationships may lead to business opportunities. This approach is strategic and, when executed well, incredibly rewarding.

But that's not all. LinkedIn serves a dual purpose. Not only does it help you connect with ideal clients, but it's also an effective platform for building your brand and business presence. How? Through consistent posting of authority content.

You can share project updates, client testimonials, and snapshots of your team's accomplishments. Showcase your expertise and the value you bring to your clients world. Position yourself as the go-to expert in your field. This builds credibility and attracts the attention of potential clients who may have never considered your services otherwise.

The beauty of LinkedIn is it’s a slow-burn strategy. It complements other business development methods, such as immediate, short-term strategies (green), medium-term strategies (yellow), and long-term strategies (red). LinkedIn falls into the latter category, offering a steady, long-term stream of opportunities coming into your business. 

As you consistently surround yourself with your ideal clients on LinkedIn, you'll notice the power of building credibility and presence over time. You'll stand out in a sea of your competitors who are not fully utilising this platform.

Here's an interesting twist—your LinkedIn presence doesn't just catch the eye of potential clients. It also captivates potential staff members. As they see your accomplishments, your projects, and your unique company culture, they may reach out to you, keen to be a part of your team.

LinkedIn is an untapped goldmine. It's a tool that very few in our industry fully embrace. But when you invest the time, build a strategy, and cultivate a presence on LinkedIn, the rewards can be extraordinary.

So, let's shift our perspective. Let's see LinkedIn not as a time-consuming mystery but as a strategic tool to connect with ideal clients and elevate our brand. Invest your time wisely, and the dividends will be worth it.
