Build a high performing engineering team that generates incredible profits & frees you up to focus on strategy, direction & the high-growth activities that will move the needle the most & make the biggest difference
So many of us know that as leaders and business owners, we need to be more strategic with our days, weeks, months and years.
We know we need to spend more time on big picture thinking, thinking about where our market is going, thinking about how to solve our clientsâ problems in a new and unique way, thinking about and forward planning for the pipeline of work coming in the door and making sure the team and the people around us are performing to the best of their ability.
So why do so many of us find it difficult or get uncomfortable when we think about or even go to take some time out of our weeks to stop and think creatively and strategically?
The answer lies in the conflict in your mind between the different parts of your personality.
Let me explain.
You see, you have different parts of your personality that want different things for you.
You have a driver / achiever part of your personality that only ever wants you to be actioning things, ticking things off your to-do list and to k...
Do you feel like you have to do everything on your own and think that asking for help shows weakness?
Did you know that we are naturally wired this way, and it is okay to feel like this? We have a part of our personality that loves the âhard slogâ and âgoing it aloneâ and proving / showing everyone around us that we donât need help.
However, it can catch up on us if we continue to act and think this way. It can burn us out to a point where we become ineffective and useless in our role. If you are a team leader or a business owner, it may negatively affect how your team and business grows.Â
If you want to build an amazing team, get better clients, become a confident leader and grow a successful team & business â then it is so important that you become OK with asking for help.

Today I want to explore with you the three core traits I see as being critical if you want to be a successful leader.
Everyone has their own flavour and their own spin on what it takes to create a successful leader. The following three core traits are what I really see working right now for successful leaders and business owners in the engineering and construction industry.Â
The first trait is Strength.Â
At the moment in particular, but in general, being a strong leader is so so important. In order to lead others, in order to have others buy into your vision and your strategy and in order to build a really inspired, motivated and high performing team of people around you - you need to be strong.Â
You need to be firm with your non-negotiables and you need to be prepared to have hard conversations and stand up for what you believe in and what you believe is the right course of action to be taken.Â
You need to have a strength of character to be able to have hard conversations with pe...
Today I want to explore with you why growth, meaning your personal growth as a leader or business owner as well as growing your team and growing your business, can feel so hard at times.Â
You see, we as human beings are naturally wired to want to stay and feel safe. We typically donât like to feel uncomfortable and we typically donât like to get outside of our comfort zone.Â
However, all human beings have what I call a 'growth urge'. Meaning the innate or inbuilt urge to want to grow, to want to do better, to want to be better, to want to be more successful, to grow a really profitable team or business etc. - you get me.Â
And so, as human beings, we are constantly battling this internal struggle and this internal conflict between wanting to feel comfortable and staying safe versus getting uncomfortable and growing, learning and evolving.Â
So, as we go to learn a new skill, as we go to chase new and bigger better clients, as we go to grow our team or grow our business or in general ...
Are you holding onto tasks that you KNOW you should be giving to others, way longer than you should?Â
As youâre growing your team and your business â the reality is that you simply canât do everything.Â
If you want to build a really successful team or business. If you want to grow, if you want more revenue and more profit, if you want more clients â then you need to delegate.Â

Today I want to explore with you why frustration and being frustrated is a good thing.
All of us as leaders, business owners and achievers are always striving. Always striving to do new things, to achieve more, to look at new strategies for winning work or for creating better client relationships, to lead our team better and in general just doing things more efficiently and better.Â
Whenever we are trying new things, whenever we are looking to implement new systems or processes or strategies into our team or our business, or really anything new that we try to do - is us stepping outside of our comfort zone.Â
And this drive within us for us to always be wanting to do more, achieve more, be better, and in general grow and learn - means that we are constantly stepping outside of our comfort zone.Â
So today, I want to explore with you the place of frustration in this whole process.Â
You see, we often get frustrated when we try new things. We often get frustrated when we step outside o...

All of the work that I do with my clients in my coaching programs is based on three core pillars. These 3 pillars are called Your Growth Model.Â
The first pillar that I work with my clients around is Attract. This is doing all the things that are going to help you win more work, help you attract better clients into your team or your business, generate more revenue and repeat business from your current clients and allow you to have more confidence in your project pipeline.Â
The second pillar is Perform. In this pillar I work with my clients on the performance of their team and their business. Helping them improve their client relationships, getting their clients really happy with the work that theyâre doing and turning their clients into what I call raving fans. We also work on their team performance - getting their team humming really nicely as well as looking at their leadership skills to ensure they are doing everything they possibly can to lead their team and t...
Today I want to explore with you when you should be talking about fees and getting paid for working with your clients.Â
The simple answer is as soon as possible and as early as possible in the process.Â
This week I was working with a client in my CLIENTS coaching program and they were in a bit of a situation with their client.Â
You see - a whole bunch of work had been done on a project and they were then tasked with trying to get paid for the work that they had already done.Â
Asking for money and trying to get paid for work once youâve already started - or even worse once you finished - gets harder and harder the longer that you leave it.
A lot of the times we donât like talking with our clients about fees and getting paid for work because we view it as an uncomfortable conversation and we donât want our clients to not like us.
The simple fact of the matter is - if you donât talk about fees and you donât talk about getting paid for the work that your client has asked you to do - ...
This week I ran a process with my clients in my coaching program around getting really clear on the key focus points that they need to work on in the next 4 to 6 weeks to really make the biggest difference.Â
My coaching framework is built around three core pillars being âÂ
Attract - meaning business development, winning work and attracting new clients.
Perform - being the performance of your team, the performance of yourself as a leader and developing amazing key client relationships.
Grow - meaning focusing on the activities that will grow your team, grow your business and elevate yourself into a truly strategic leadership role.Â
So 3 x 3 works out to be nine core areas that are key focus points for helping my clients win in these core pillars of Attract, Perform & Grow.
The activity that I ran with my clients this week was looking at these nine core areas and scoring themselves honestly out of 10 as to how theyâre going in these nine areas.Â
A score of 0 to 4 means they are do...
